on Hawaii Radio & TV Site So Where's Frankie B.?
Frank B. Shaner disappeared unceremoniously from the morning show on Hawaiian 105 KINE FM a few months ago (Jan. 12, 2004?). Many people asked, "Where's Frankie?" but got no answers from the station. Famous for his Hawaiian Falsetto Competition and for being the comic force behind Brickwood Galuteria's "straight man" on the KINE early-morning show, Shaner's absence has left a gaping hole in the morning drive time. Galuteria now often fumbles when yet another caller asks on-air, "So where's Frank?" Erika Engle of the Star-Bulletin filed a column on the subject and in it, station managment had this to say: "We're restructuring the morning show," said Mike Kelly, vice president and general manager of KINE and its sister stations. "He wasn't terminated for cause or didn't do anything wrong." The management said he would be working in the station's front office, while Brickwood Galuteria would continue, solo on-air for the morning slot. Then Frank B. disappeared from the station's web site! Now a grassroots effort has sprung up to address the seeming lack of concern for Uncle Frankie's well being. We need to get the word out. We need to locate Frank B. Shaner and find out what happened to him! As in another infamous missing persons case of recent history, questions are going unanswered, or worse, answered vaguely. In response to the "Where's Frankie" question, Galuteria has been heard to answer, "I don't know!" Right.
You can do your part by discussing Uncle Frank's disappearance on HawaiiStories.com or on HawaiiRadioTV.com reporting Uncle Frankie sightings in the forum. And you can help by displaying the "So Where's Frankie B.?" bumper sticker or poster! Maybe together we can shame the culpable parties into confessing what they've done to Uncle Frank. Uncle Frank, if you're out there, 4/29/2004 - John Berger of the Star-Bulletin wants to know, "Where's Frankie?"! 4/27/2004 - Well, there were exactly three of the "Where's Frankie" bumper stickers printed before they got pulled by CafePress.com. I gave them all away. If anyone can find one, I suggest they spread it far and wide, make your own! Xerox™-brand copy da buggas and Scotch™-brand tape 'um inside your car's rear window! Stick um on the file cabinet in your office, on the box office window, wherever! 4/27/2004 - Boy, that didn't last too long! Hawaiian 105 KINE-FM Kimo Akane sent an email to CafePress.com claiming I infringed their copyright by using the radio station's telephone request line on the sticker and said it was the "Missing On-Air Talent Hotline." (You can't copyright a telephone number.) CafePress.com assumes the complainer is right and they yanked the store without further hearing. They refuse to allow it back unless Kimo Akane approves. It doesn't look like he'll do that under any circumstance. He just wants me to drop the subject and go away. 4/24/2004 - We received these photos via email from unnamed parties. They didn't ask for ransom, but these appear to be very recent pictures of Uncle Frankie. Hmmm. It could be a clue! Discuss it on Hawaii Stories.
